One of the first tasks in developing a comprehensive workplace health program is to complete an assessment of the workplace's current health profile. This is a useful way to understand current workplace infrastructure, policies and programs and to inform the direction and design of the workplace health program. It also provides you with a baseline that you can measure improvements against. A workplace health assessment should be repeated periodically to measure improvements that you have made.

The Better Health, Better Business Workplace Health Assessment tool provides a snapshot of the workplace health environment (based on the 5 pillars of success) and identifies what you are currently doing to address modifiable risk factors for cancer and chronic disease.

After your Workplace Health Assessment has been completed, you will automatically receive an e-mail including a tailored recommendations report and a score for each section of the assessment tool. You will use these to determine priorities and action plan in Steps 4 and 5.

Caution! If a workplace health assessment is not conducted, workplaces run the risk of their health priorities and actions being based solely on the committee member's needs. The assessment tool can also help strengthen the business case to upper leadership, ensure appropriate use of resources and provide baseline information to evaluate effectiveness of the workplace health program.
